Ah yes, this is a great one as well! Horse the Band covered March of the Pigs by Nine Inch Nails, I didn't know it was a cover until I was watching an old episode of Beavis and Butthead and saw them watching the music video for it. Felt kind of cheated by Horse the Band after waiting over 10 years for new music and to find out one of the 3 songs they did was a cover haha. They're both pretty similar, but I think the keyboard work is al little better on the cover.
Never thought I'd see anyone here talk about Horse the Band.
Saw them live a couple times when I was 16 and cutsman was all I would listen to for a long time.
None of those are super-transformative, as many of the rest of these will be, but I appreciate the way they bring out the musicality in Dylan's work.
Another really fun cover that softens a rock track is Dolly Parton's bluegrass version of - wait for it - "Shine" by Collective Soul: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g4MZVir8w8A
If you like that type of thing, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes made an entire discography just doing rock covers of non-rock songs. Here's their version of "One Tin Soldier," as a representative example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_mcGeNkJ3aU

I absolutely love them! I only got to see them live once. Met Nathan after the show, which was cool, he was checking out my tattoos, Eric was at the bar getting shit faced, and I didn't even notice it, but David was right behind me when I was meeting Nathan, I saw it in the picture after I got home haha. I bought their Earth Tour book/DVD collection, was always hoping I'd get to see them live again and get them all to write and sign in the back of the book because it has all these empty pages like a year book, but they haven't come around.
Cutsman is so good! I bought a synthesizer just so I could learn those synth riffs, I learned a little bit of it haha...and that's all I could play lol.
Bloodhound Gang's cover of Along Comes Mary by The Association is so good. The lyrics are great, but the original just does absolutely nothing for me too much clapping, lame guitars, and it just feels so boring...which makes all the more happy for the cover because it's got more of a punch and the lyrics hit harder with that vibe.
How can we forget Bloodhound Gang's cover of "It's Tricky" by Run DMC?
Of course the infamous chorus from "Firewater Burn" has been used by everyone from Coal Chamber to Brantley Gilbert LOL
Interestingly enough, While I am surprised no one has brought this cover up, it so happens to be one of my least liked songs by them. It's just sad that that cover is all they're really known for when that whole album was absolute fire! "Courage" and "Wish" are bangers.
Possibly one of my favorite shows was Alien Ant Farm with Taproot and Nonpoint (Which brings up another cover).

Love the Goldfinger cover of 99 Red Balloons. Me First and The Gimme Gimmes have done tons of covers that I dig, especially Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me.
You might be down with No Use For a Name as well? I like their covers of Turning Japanese and Enjoy The Silence.
These kids (well not kids anymore) are stupid talented and they did a few covers over the years. While I have to say Killswitch did the best rendition of Dio, these kids did a great true to form cover song that showcases their abilities.
They have a couple of albums out featuring their own music and it's not bad.
Big fan of a good cover song. I have 250+ in my "Covers" playlist on the Spotify, always on the hunt for something new and good. Here are a few standouts.
I think I'd go with the Righteous Brothers' version of Unchained Melody which I only recently found out was a cover of a song from a film made in 1954
I also love Echo & The Bunnymen's cover of People Are Strange, partly as it served as my intro to The Doors who I quickly grew to become a massive fan of and remain to this day
For a lesser known one, I absolutely love Tori Amos' cover of Raining Blood by Slayer which is something that works far better than it has any right to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YUOuJJdjFHc
Nostalgic Erotica Prod said: can we nominate the entire catalog of Weird Al Yankovich as well?
messyhot said: Al counts as parody more than cover.
When a friend of CJ Ramone approached him and said "Weird Al just did a cover of your song.", CJ immediately said "You mean a parody, right??" To which he replied, "No man; it's a straight up cover.", and after listening to it, CJ said, "Wow, that's pretty darn good." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJBwotLwOV8
I didn't see it listed, but Black Betty by Ram Jam, probably a cover of LeadBelly's version from 1935, which was a cover of a Negro Spiritual. Fantastic energy.
Nina Simone's I Put a Spell on You, cover of 1956 song by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Kingfish did a decent job, too.
One thing that blew my mind was Paint it Black by Rolling Stones is, might be, a cover. While it's not exactly the same, you can hear the seeds in this version from the 60s.
